Myths about Hyperlipidemia

1. Hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol) – a condition affecting only the elderly?

Hyperlipidemia is not specific, and strikes people indiscriminately, neither by age nor by gender. It is quite common, with little difference in incidence between people in their thirties and sixties. When looking at hypertension, hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidemia, it is the latter that is the most common among young people.

2. Hyperlipidemia only affects people who are obese?

It would be a huge mistake to think so. Body mass is not a determining factor regarding hyperlipidemia. Many thin people with high cholesterol levels seek out medical advice regarding this issue.

3. Is it not the case that if you eat fatty foods, you will develop hyperlipidemia, but if you avoid eating eggs and meat, you can prevent this disorder?

No. Not eating eggs and meat can further compromise blood lipid levels. Even perfectly healthy people are vulnerable to hyperlipidemia, since individuals at different risk of heart and cerebral circulatory problems are assessed according to different cholesterol levels.

Hyperlipidemia – a Silent Killer

Almost all cases of hyperlipidemia, even those that are apparent in test results, show no detectable symptoms. There are also some people whose blood test results are within the normal range, but whose cholesterol is too high in the opinion of their doctor. According to medical science – harm of hyperlipidemia = hyperlipidemia indicators × duration of hyperlipidemia. So even if everything is currently fine, it is only a matter of time. With each passing day living with hyperlipidemia, the potential risk of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction or cerebral infarction increases. Over time, unfortunately, this silent killer is bound to sneak up on you.

What Causes Blood Cholesterol to Rise?

A hyperlipidaemic person in their sixties has increased risk compared to a person in their thirties; a person who smokes daily, drinks alcohol and goes to bed late has increased risk compared to a person living a healthy lifestyle; and a diabetic person has increased risk in comparison to a healthy individual.

When we talk about hyperlipidemia, we are talking about fasting blood cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides, HDL and LDL levels.

“Hyper” means high, but high cholesterol levels are not necessarily bad. High HDL cholesterol is considered good, but LDL and triglyceride levels should be kept low.

Lipids are not just fats, but various lipid substances. A blood test can indicate triglyceride, cholesterol and other lipid levels.

There are Four Major Functions of Lipids

Function as a barrier, maintain immunity, support cell-to-cell communication, store energy.

People nowadays talk a lot about changes in blood lipids, they avoid them and try their best to keep their blood lipid levels extremely low. But what they do not realize is that if the body’s lipid levels drop to a certain level, the immune system will then seriously deteriorate as the person gets older. The body will then become vulnerable to external bacteria and tumours may develop.

So, there are no good or bad lipids. What matters is the amount. We should strive to maintain a balance, so that there is neither too much nor too little. Lipids are an essential part of our well-being, and hyperlipidaemia leads to an imbalance.

IN CASE OF SUCH HEALTH PROBLEMS, BLOOD TESTS ARE NECESSARY

How to Manage Cholesterol?

1. Nutrition: avoid fried foods, try to eat as lean as possible, avoid animal fats when cooking at home, and avoid products high in animal fats, such as bacon, pork belly, etc.

2. Physical activity: effectively helps burn fat. For example: brisk walking, jogging, qigong, tai chi, some form of swimming, yoga, etc.

3. Medicine: By inhibiting fat synthesis, they tend to lower blood lipid levels. Blood lipids are mainly triglycerides and cholesterol. Different medicines are prescribed to target different types of lipids.

4. Triglyceride-lowering medicine: mainly fibrates such as fenofibrate, bezafibrate, etc.

5. Cholesterol-lowering medicine: mainly statins such as simvastatin, rosuvastatin, atorvastatin etc.

Natural Ingedients for Effective Lipid Control

HAWTHORN FLAVONOIDS

Lowers blood lipids and strengthens the cardiovascular system, increases coronary circulation, strengthens the heart, regulates arrhythmias, lowers blood pressure, thins the blood and protects vascular endothelial cells.

NATURAL POLYPHENOL RESVERATROL

Resveratrol is most abundant in the skin of grapes. Resveratrol reduces blood viscosity, inhibits platelet aggregation and vasodilatation, prevents thrombus formation and coronary disease, has a preventive and therapeutic effect on cardiac ischaemia and hyperlipidaemia, and helps prevent tumour formation.

PLANT STEROL

Sterol is similar in structure and chemical properties to cholesterol.

When present in the small intestine, it can inhibit the absorption, catabolism and biosynthesis of cholesterol, effectively preventing and treating ischaemia and other heart diseases. Micro quantities of this active substance are naturally found in food.

HIGHLY EFFECTIVE BETA GLUCAN

The high viscosity of beta glucan inhibits gastric emptying and slows the absorption of glucose in the small intestine. Beta glucan also reduces postprandial blood sugar spikes and may have some preventive effect on diabetes; it strengthens and activates the immune system’s troops, the macrophages, thus increasing resistance to viruses, bacteria, fungi and other pathogenic microorganisms. At the same time, it lowers “bad cholesterol” (LDL) without affecting “good cholesterol” (HDL), enhances the effect of probiotics, and balances the intestinal microflora, thus preventing diarrhoea or constipation.

KUDZU ROOT POWDER

Kudzu root powder enhances the regenerative function of liver cells, helps restore normal liver function, promotes natural bile secretion, prevents the accumulation of fat in the liver; it also lowers total and LDL cholesterol, has anticoagulant effects, efficiently inhibits platelet aggregation, decreases the viscosity of the blood, and lowers the risk of diseases of the cardiovascular and cerebral circulatory systems. Furthermore, kudzu root powder has a high hepaprotective effect, reducing the risk of fatty liver.

We recommend Using this Product If:

1. You have elevated total cholesterol, triglycerides and/or HDL blood levels.

2. Your blood pressure is abnormal, you have mild myocardial ischaemia (e.g., frequent shortness of breath, tightness in the chest), or exhibit signs and symptoms of diseases of the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems.

3. You lead a demanding lifestyle, are physically inactive and/or overweight, and are at risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; or if you have family history of inherited cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disorders.
